Gwen Walz was born on June 15, 1966, and raised in Mankato, Minnesota. She earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of Minnesota Mankato and a master's degree in education from Saint Mary's University of Minnesota.

Career in Education

Gwen Walz began her career as an elementary school teacher in St. James, Minnesota. She held positions at various schools in the Mankato area before becoming the principal of Hoover Elementary School in North Mankato in 2004.

As principal, Walz implemented innovative programs to support student learning and improve school culture. She led the school's transition to a blended learning model, which combines traditional classroom instruction with online learning.

First Lady of Minnesota

In 2018, Gwen Walz's husband, Tim Walz, was elected Governor of Minnesota. As First Lady, she has focused on issues related to education, health care, and the environment.
