Laurentia Tan, Yip Pin Xiu Bring Home Four Medals From Paralympic Games

Singapore's Paralympic Team Shines in Paris

Athletes Laurentia Tan and Yip Pin Xiu have contributed four medals towards Singapore's total medal count at the Paralympic Games Paris 2024.

Tan, a para equestrian, bagged two bronze medals in the dressage individual and team events.

Meanwhile, Yip, a swimmer, added a silver and a bronze medal to Singapore's tally.

Tan's Equestrian Success

Tan's bronze medals mark Singapore's first Paralympic medals in equestrian sports.

In the individual dressage event, Tan rode her horse, Fuerst on Tour, to a score of 72.038%, finishing behind Great Britain's Natasha Baker and Italy's Sara Morganti.

In the team event, Tan and her teammates, Gemma Rose Jenkings and Sharon Jarvis, clinched bronze with a combined score of 213.931%, behind Great Britain and the Netherlands.

Yip's Swimming Success

Yip continued her Paralympic success with a silver medal in the women's 50m backstroke S2 event.

She also won a bronze medal in the women's 100m backstroke S2 event, bringing her total Paralympic medal count to eight.

Yip's performance in Paris extends her legacy as one of Singapore's most successful Paralympians.

Singapore's Paralympic Journey

Singapore's participation in the Paralympic Games has been marked by continuous improvement and success.

The country's first Paralympic medal was a bronze won by swimmer Theresa Goh in the 2000 Games in Sydney.

Since then, Singaporean athletes have achieved remarkable results, including multiple gold medals by swimmers Yip Pin Xiu and Theresa Goh.
