Sew a Doll Skirt: Free Pattern

Materials

• Fabric (cotton, linen, or other lightweight fabric)
• Thread
• Needle
• Scissors
• Measuring tape or ruler
• Iron and ironing board

Instructions

1. Measure the doll's waist. Wrap the measuring tape around the doll's waist and note the measurement. Add 1 inch to this measurement for seam allowance.
2. Cut two rectangles of fabric. The width of each rectangle should be the doll's waist measurement plus 1 inch. The length of each rectangle should be the desired length of the skirt.
3. Pin the rectangles together, right sides facing. Sew the two rectangles together along the long sides, using a 1/4-inch seam allowance. Press the seam open.
4. Fold the bottom edge of the skirt up by 1/4 inch and press. Fold the bottom edge up again by 1/4 inch and press again. Sew the hem in place close to the inner fold.
5. Fold the top edge of the skirt down by 1 inch and press. Fold the top edge down again by 1 inch and press again. Sew the casing in place close to the inner fold.
6. Thread a ribbon or elastic through the casing. Tie the ribbon or elastic to create a snug fit around the doll's waist.

Tips

• For a gathered skirt, gather the top edge of the skirt before sewing the casing.
• To add a ruffle to the skirt, cut a strip of fabric twice the length of the skirt and twice the desired width of the ruffle. Gather the strip of fabric and sew it to the bottom edge of the skirt.
• To embellish the skirt, add lace, ribbon, or other trim.
